REPORT FOR BURST PRESSURE
TEST ON COMFIT COUPLER
Purpose
To determine the burst pressure
of an assembled duct and Comfit Coupler.
Specimens
Duct 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and
2 inch nominal size to match the duct.
Test Method and Conditions
The test was carried out
on an assembly of two pieces of ducts approximately 12 in long joined
together by the coupler. The pressure was applied to the assembly
as shown in the chart below. After the burst pressure is reached
the machine is stopped and sample removed for inspection. The failure
is defined as leak in the coupler or coupler duct joint during the
testing.

Note:
At the maximum burst pressure no leak was observed for any coupler.
The couplers were disassembled to check for any component failure.
No failure was observed in any coupler component. The couplers are
rated for the above burst pressure.
REPORT FOR SUSTAINED PRESSURE
TEST ON COMFIT COUPLER
Purpose
To determine the sustained
pressure of an assembled duct and Comfit Coupler.
Specimens
Duct - 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and
2 inch SDR11
Coupler - 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2 inch nominal size to match the duct
Test Method and Conditions
The test was carried out on an assembly of two pieces of ducts approximately
12 in long joined together by the coupler. The pressure was applied
to the assembly as shown in the chart below. After the sustained pressure
is reached and maintained for three hours without any leakage, the
test is stopped and sample removed for inspection. The coupler is inspected
for any defect or damge. For coupler to pass the test there should
be no leakage during the entire test period and no damge to any of
the coupler component.

Note:
During the entire period of three hours of sustained pressure, no
leak was observed for any coupler. The couplers were disassembled to
check for any component failure. No failure was observed in any coupler
component. The couplers are therefore rated for the above sustained
pressure.
TEST REPORT: RADIUS BEND FOR COMFIT COUPLERS
Purpose
To determine the impact of bend radius on Comfit Coupler pressure
integrity under sustained pressure of 250 psi.
Specimens
Duct 1, 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inch SDR11
Coupler 1, 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inch
nominal size to match the duct
Test Method and Conditions
The test was carried out on an assembly of two pieces of ducts joined
together by a comfit
coupler. The assembly was pressure sealed at one end and connected
to pressure pump on the
other end. The assembled coupler and ducts was placed in a fixture
that can bend the duct at
the prescribed bend radius. The vertical leg of the duct was tightly
secured and was not allowed
to move during the bending process. While the horizontal leg was allowed
to move guided under
a U-bolt. This arrangement caused stress on the coupler at the start
of bend radius on the
vertical leg. The assembly of duct and coupler was bent starting with
maximum recommended
bend radius for the duct size while under sustained pressure of 250
psi.
The assembly was tested for any leakage at the comfit coupler.
After 15 minutes the bend radius was than decreased to next step while
assembly was under
constant pressure of 250 psi. The process was repeated till a radius
of half the maximum bend
radius for the duct size was achieved.
The table below lists the test bend radius for the duct sizes for
which different coupler sizes was
tested.

Test Results
During the entire period of sustained pressure no leak was observed
for 1 and 1 1/4 in coupler at any bend radius. A slight leak was noticed
for 1 1/4 in coupler during the test when the bend radius reached 8
in.
It is concluded from tests, the comfit couplers are capable of sustained
the pressure of 250 psi when installed with a bend radius far exceeding
the recommended bend radius of the duct itself.
REPORT FOR PULL OUT TEST ON COMFIT COUPLER
Purpose
To determine the resistance to pullout forces on an
assembled duct and comfit coupler.
Specimens
Duct 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2 inch SDR 11
Coupler 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2 inch nominal size to match the duct
Test Method and Conditions
The test was carried out on an assembly of two pieces
of ducts approximately 12 in long joined
together by the coupler. The force was applied gradually at
each end of ducts by Tensile Testing
Machine till the maximum pull force is reached. After the maximum
load is reached the machine
is stopped and sample removed for inspection. The failure is
defined as separation or loss of
grip of the coupler on either duct during the testing.

Test Results
At the maximum load the duct slipped out of the fixture
that holds the duct to Tension Machine (slipped at thread
joint between pulling eye and duct surface). However there was no
slippage at the duct coupler joints. The couplers
were disassembled to check for any component failure. No failure
was observed in any coupler component. The couplers are therefore rated
